Report: second-gen iPad Air could upgrade to 2GB of RAM

updated 03:30 pm EDT, Wed August 20, 2014

iWatch may have 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage

The second-generation iPad Air should see a switch from 1GB to 2GB of RAM, according to a Taiwanese site, TechNews. The third-gen iPad mini, however, will allegedly retain 1GB, according to the publication. That would be a reversal of last year, when the Mini was made equivalent to full-sized iPads in everything but size.

Apple is expected to announce new iPads sometime in October. Rumors have hinted that Apple may be planning split-screen multitasking, something that would likely require more than 1GB. A discrepancy in memory could mesh with claims that the feature will only be limited to the Air and/or an as-yet-unseen "iPad Pro."

Separately, TechNews claims that the iWatch will have 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage. That may be the first specific claim about the device's internal hardware.
