Samsung allegedly coming back into Apple DRAM supply for iPhone 6

updated 11:35 am EDT, Mon August 25, 2014

Company excluded since iPhone 5

Samsung has been brought back into the iPhone DRAM supply chain for the iPhone 6, says Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri. The company was shut out of DRAM for the iPhone 5 and 5s, presumably because of Apple's desire to distance itself from its main competitor and legal antagonist. For the iPhone 6, Samsung is reportedly being joined by Micron and Elpida.

Arcuri suggests that Apple may consume so much DRAM this fall that industry prices will increase three to five percent sequentially in September. Flash memory in general has been decreasing in cost over time, but on a temporary basis Apple orders can be large enough to create scarcity.

Even without DRAM, Apple has been dependent on Samsung for parts. Although TSMC is believed to be joining production of A-series processors, until now most of them have been manufactured at a Samsung plant in Austin, Texas.

Love Samsung or hate Samsung, their parts are top notch for their price range.

I have boycotted Samsung consumer products and hope that Apple will stick it to Samsung too.

Well I don't know about their parts, but as a consumer, their products are always mediocre at best .... they always cheat on build quality, "parts" and warranty/replacement. I've owned, Samsung printers, laundry, TV, and DVD players .... all of them lacklustre in quality. They're just like Microsoft's products: "good enough" not to be returnable, and yet, cheap enough that you can't resist.
