Latest iPhone 6 leaks hint at M8 coprocessor, new power adapter

updated 10:01 am EDT, Mon August 25, 2014

'Phosphorus' chip could track many different health stats

In the run-up to an official announcement in September, several new leaks have emerged concerning the iPhone 6. Among these is another schematic from Chinese repair firm GeekBar, said to show the device's motion coprocessor -- codenamed "Phosphorus," but which may be called the M8. The M7 on the iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and Retina iPad mini enabled more precise motion tracking.

It's speculated that the M8 may handle far more than motion. The forthcoming iOS 8 will include Health, an app used to track a wide variety of statistics such as heartrate and glucose levels, mainly from accessories like the iWatch. The M8 could be used to alleviate the burden that would otherwise impose on the iPhone 6's main processor, the A8.

An image from Chinese site Sina Weibo is meanwhile claimed to show a redesigned power adapter. The design is actually similar to the one Apple currently uses in Australia for iPhones, and has indentations on either side for better grip. The same source also shows off a Lightning cable with a reversible USB connector, similar to the ones in other recent reports.
