Nokia bringing Here back to iOS with offline maps

updated 03:11 pm EDT, Wed September 3, 2014

Should arrive by end of 2014

Nokia's Here maps app should be coming back to iOS later this year, and with offline mapping functions, says the Wall Street Journal. The app is said to be in the last stages of development, and due to arrive by the end of the year. Users should be able to both search and navigate while offline.

The original version of Here was removed from the App Store in December. At the time, a Nokia spokesperson explained that changes in iOS 7 "harm the user experience." Apple's iOS 8 should launch later this month, however, and Here is in fact coming to a variety of platforms, including Samsung's Galaxy phones and Gear S smartwatch.
