Display tech wrongly speculated for Galaxy S III

The previously spotted Samsung GT-i9500 is rumored to carry a Super AMOLED HD Plus display. According to sources of SamMobile, the handset was seen at the Tizen Delopers Conference in San Francisco sporting the display tech, previously speculated to be destined for the Galaxy S III.

It is speculated that the GT-i9500, alleged to have an internal codename of Fraser, had the display as part of a small-scale manufacturing test for such technology. Creating development handsets could be seen as a perfect opportunity for such a trial, and including the Plus display is viewed as a great promotional point towards the jointly developed Tizen mobile operating system.

The Super AMOLED HD Plus technology uses 50 percent more subpixels than the PenTile variant, which Samsung uses for the Galaxy S III's 1280x720 HD panel. This was seen as a downgrade in quality by some parties, due to what is described as a fuzzy pixel appearance for fine details such as text.

If the report surrounding the GT-i9500 is accurate, it would represent the first production use of a 1280x720 HD display that offers the benefits of AMOLED and standard RGB pixels. The Galaxy S II uses the Plus tech, despite a lower 800x480 resolution.
