Position previously split, filled by two separate employees

Facebook has promoted the VP of engineering, Mike Schroepfer to the company's previously unoccupied position of chief technical officer on Friday according to a report from the company. "Mike Schroepfer’s new designation as Facebook’s CTO reflects the unique and important role he plays across the company," Tucker Bounds, a spokesman for Facebook wrote.

Schroepfer has been employed at Facebook for five years, supervising mobile efforts and engineering. He was the vice president of engineering at Mozilla for three years prior to Facebook, following a stint at Sun's DataCenter Automation and Clustering Software Division.

The promotion continues the company's effort to fill the executive lineup as it shifts models to a mobile-centric positioning. He replaces Bret Taylor who left the company following its initial public offering.
