V-Moda reveals Vamp Verza for iOS and Android
V-Moda has revealed the Vamp Verza for iOS and Android mobile phone users. The Vamp Verza is a mobile combined DAC/headphone amplifier with built-in battery pack to allow mobile users to achieve a much higher quality on the go. Aimed at audiophiles, especially given its $598 asking price, the device allows users to connect their smartphone or tablet over a USB connection to either Apple’s 30-pin adapter, Lightning adapter or an Android micro-USB port. As an added bonus, the built-in battery pack can also be used to charge mobile devices.

The company has also revealed a companion aluminum case, the Metallo, that is designed to attach to the Vamp Verza so that a user's smartphone is constantly and solidly attached to the amp when in use. At present, V-Moda has made Metallo cases only for the iPhone 5 and for the Galaxy S III. However, the Vamp Verza can also be used with iPads, iPods, all types of Android devices as well as Macs and Windows devices.

The V-Moda Vamp Verza incorporates two dedicated high-end DACs that by-pass the internal DAC on iOS and Android devices. The amplifier outputs at 150mW when used over USB with Macs and PCs or 130mW when used with mobile devices – V-Moda says this is powerful enough to drive high-impedence (>32 ohm) and large headphones. Interference is minimised, while controls include Hi/Lo gain, a rotary volume control for precise control, a bass and 3D button, optical out and is Apple MFi approved. The internal battery is rated at 2200mAh, while its total weight is 190grams.
