iPhone to be offered with prepaid service?

The iPhone may be offered as a prepaid device, according to a leaked list of AT&T product codes. Entered into the cell provider's system on April 19th, the tracking numbers would have the Apple handset available through each of AT&T's main service methods, including familiar subscription-only service as well as the Go Phone Pick Your Plan (hybrid) and Pay As You Go (prepaid-only) methods. The costs for the individual services are unknown, though AT&T hasn't announced any changes to its payment methods for the iPhone versus other devices.

While the possibility remains that the entries for different payment methods have been completed automatically regardless of AT&T's intent to use them for shipping phones, the revelation suggests that AT&T has reconsidered its initial stance on the iPhone's use on its network. The company has so far only committed to the pricing officially announced at Macworld San Francisco in January, which asserted only that the iPhone would be available starting from $499 with a two-year full subscription.

The uncovered list didn't indicate what, if any, price changes would be made for the handset itself to accommodate different pricing systems. [via BGR]
