Buffalo has said it will soon bring out the Wi-Fi Gamer, a new wireless router made explicitly for console players who want simplified Internet access. It borrows the company's definitive AOSS (AirStation One-Touch Secure System) feature to automatically establish a secure WEP wireless link with most modern consoles by pressing a top-mounted button and choosing a setting on the game device itself. Network names and password are then shared automatically between each new console with no manual setup involved, Buffalo says, allowing kids or mindful parents to allow play online regardless of changes to the access key.The method works with only one Buffalo device on the network thanks to collaboration with Nintendo and Sony, which have already enabled support on their respective DS and PSP handhelds as well as on Sony's PS3. Wii support will be ready soon, Buffalo promises. Users can also view active connections through an external LCD on the router, which is already available in Japan and should be ready for the US by August with a $50 price tag. [via 1UP] |
