Even though enthusiasts knew the phone as the Elf, the HTC Touch emerged as a surprise when it was announced this spring in part because of its less-than-subtle touchscreen interface changes and naming scheme. For many, these were a sign that HTC was hoping to ride the wave of iPhone publicity. If so, it worked: the device sold more than 800,000 units during its first three months on sale.
