ASUS on Wednesday confirmed previously rumored plans of a touchscreen Eee PC. Company sales VP Kevin Lin explains that at least some versions of the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 will include the touch input as an alternative to the built-in trackpad. Software that might take advantage of the panel was not discussed. Some systems may also incorporate GPS support for navigation, Lin added, also noting that the local price for the systems was likely to reach $500.The company official also notes that the budget E-DT is likely to be priced at $199 US, and separately that the system will be based on Intel's Atom processor to reach its low price. Its notebook counterpart is already poised to sell well with as many as five million systems sold this year even with battery shortages affecting the system over the first quarter. |
