LG bows low-power, 10,000:1 contrast LCD

In a bid to raise its eco-friendly profile, LG today added the W2252TE to its Flatron LCD lineup. While relatively large at 22 inches, the screen consumes just 22W of average power, cutting well below the 40W of other displays the same size. The electronics giant also promises performance well above many of those same competitors with a TV-like 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and an unusual scaling mode for 4:3 images that claims to fill the horizontal space of the panel without resorting to distorting the image.

The screen also nets a 250cd/m2 brightness level and has the same 170-degree horizontal viewing angle as most other 22-inch LCDs. Pricing for the W2252TE is unavailable, though it launches first in the UK as of August and is expected to spread to other regions in the future. [via The Register]
