Nokia unwraps Supernova des...
Nokia chose to make an unusual Friday announcement with the launch of its Supernova cellphone line. The entire series is targeted at style-aware users with both swappable front and back color faceplates as well as a Theme Colorizer app that lets users snap a photo to sample a color for their phone's wallpaper; they all also focus much more on photography than some models. The 7610 Supernova slider is Nokia's flagship with a 3.2-megapixel camera, dual LEDs for flash, FM radio, and microSD that holds both photos and music. The phone is limited to EDGE for data but supports US frequencies and will be available in the summer for 225 Euros ($355) before carrier discounts.

The 7510 Supernova switches to a flip phone shape but steps down only slightly from the 7610, offering a 2-megapixel camera with a single-LED flash but gaining both assisted GPS and a bundled 512MB microSD card on top of the music features carried over from the higher-end phone. It arrives towards the end of the year at 180 Euros ($284) before discounts and also supports US bands.

A relative starter 7310 Supernova model opts for the candybar form factor and drops flash for its 2-megapixel camera while preserving the other features of its more expensive counterparts. Nokia prices it at 155 Euros ($244) without discounts and ships it before the end of the month; two tri-band versions are available, with one supporting the US and the other focused on Europe and some other international coverage areas.

The phone is lastly joined by the 7210 Supernova, which also adopts the bar form and carries a 2-megapixel camera. Its key difference from the 7310 is a glossy finish versus the textured feel of the other device. It ships in the summer for 120 Euros ($189) without US support.

All of the phones can be sideloaded with music and other content through a USB connection to a computer running Nokia's Media Transfer (Mac) or Music PC (Windows) client and have easy access to Flickr as well as Nokia's own Ovi sharing services.
