Samsung to release smartphone with 8MP camera?

Samsung's cellular phone division is today claimed to be working on a smartphone sporting an 8.0-megapixel camera. It would be among the first, if not the first, handsets available to the public with such a high pixel count. Thus far believed to come to market bearing the i8510 name, the phone's camera would feature autofocus and a xenon flash. It would also allow video recording at 120fps.

Other features of the smartphone are believed to include Wi-Fi access, integrated GPS and HSDPA data network access. Less common features found in the class include a TV output and DivX support, along with a dedicated 3D graphics chip making the most of the 2.8-inch 240x320 pixel (QVGA) screen with 16 million colors. Onboard storage is generous, with 16GB of internal memory built in, with an 8gb version a possibility.

Between the TV output and an available optical mouse, the i8510 could act as a decent portable media center. Power will come from a 1200mAh battery.

Information such as pricing and availability was not mentioned, and can only be guessed at. [via IntoMobile]
