Sony offers compact VAIO SR series ultraportables
Sony on Monday unveiled the VAIO SR series ultraportable notebook, offered in five colors, and offering users a Centrino 2-based computing experience. The SR is constructed from magnesium alloy in night black, sunset pink, glossy pink, classic silver, and glossy silver, weighing in at just over four pounds with a 13.3-inch LED-backlit screen. The SR series features a MacBook style keyboard: integrated, with squared, and raised keys. This prevents debris from getting under keys easily, while also providing a more comfortable typing experience.

Most of the SR models feature Windows Vista Home Premium, with an optional downgrade to XP Professional, running on a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo P8400, with up to 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 memory. Sony offers users integrated 802.11n WiFi, a 1.3 Megapixel web cam, Bluetooth, a DVD burner, and up to 320GB of SATA hard drive space.

In addition, the SR series comes with VAIO Media software, a Memory Stick slot, three USB ports, i.LINK, microphone/speaker ports, and a PC Card slot. The laptops integrate with VAIO media centers and PlayStation 3s to provide streaming media content.

Sony is selling the SR series laptops starting at $1400, and will be available at the end of July. Preorders can be obtained through Sony Style.
