The e-book reader designers at iRex today revealed through a teaser page that they plan a major update to their devices next week. While short on details other than to point to a "new era" of reading, the company adds in its blog that the Monday launch will include both new hardware and new software and is not a simple upgrade.iRex is commonly known as one of the early pioneers of e-book readers with built-in wireless and has already included a Wi-Fi link on some iLiad models that pulls information from the Internet rather than through a USB connection. However, the company has come under some pressure in the US from Amazon's Kindle, which uses a cellular connection for wider-ranging data, and has also just recently seen increased competition from the launch of the Sony Reader in the UK.
