ASUS launches four VH-series 16:9 LCDs
ASUS late Thursday took the wraps from four new desktop displays that all share an extra-wide 16:9 aspect ratio. The 18.5-inch VH192, 21.5-inch VH222 and VH226, and 23.6-inch VH242 are labeled better for movie viewing with many videos filling the entire screen. The top three displays can natively display 1080p, while the VH192 displays 720p (1366x768); all use dynamic contrast ratios to improve their black levels and range from 10,000:1 in the 18.5-inch panel to 20,000:1 for the VH222 and VH242.

Accordingly, all of the systems have built-in stereo speakers for audio, while all but the VH192 have HDMI video input to route both audio and video from Blu-ray players and modern game consoles. Every model has DVI and VGA input. All but the VH226 have claimed 5ms average pixel response times and matte displays, while the lone standout uses a faster 2ms panel and a glossy finish.

In keeping with ASUS' usual launch details, the company hasn't announced availability or pricing for the new LCDs but is known to bring its screens to the US.
