Verizon upgrades Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini to Android KitKat

Verizon is rolling out Android KitKat to its current range of Droid smartphones. Owners of the Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini will receive the update from today onwards, with version 4.4 of the operating system bringing a full-screen mode, camera improvements, an updated Droid Zap app, an update for Motorola Assist, and support for the Fitbit, among other items.

Nokia Lumia 1020 due on Telus, Rogers in Canada in the future

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will be heading to Canadian carriers in the near future. The phone producer's Twitter feed for Canada states that the camera, complete with its 41-megapixel rear camera, will be available to buy on both Rogers and Telus soon. Launch dates and prices for each carrier were not revealed, but should be a similar cost to that of the AT&T version, namely around $300 on a two-year contract.

AT&T starts shipping 42MP Nokia Lumia 1020 to customers

AT&T has started selling the Nokia Lumia 1020 to customers. Available as a pre-order since July 16th, the Windows Phone 8 smartphone with the 41-megapixel PureView camera and Carl Zeiss lens is now shipping from the carrier's online store, and is expected to be in retail locations later today or over the weekend. The Lumia 1020 is priced at $300 when bought on a two-year contract, $659 off-contract, or $33 per month under AT&T Next.

Takes simultaneous 38MP, oversampled 5MP images for social network sharing

Nokia has launched its new 41-megapixel camera at its New York event, confirming a number of specifications leaked earlier today. The Nokia Lumia 1020 improves upon the camera used in the PureView 808 by adding six-lens Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, a backside illuminated sensor, and a number of other features to the Windows 8 smartphone.
