LaCie adds USB 3.0 to 2big, 4big desktop storage lines

Reworked storage gives alternative to Thunderbolt-only versions

LaCie has revealed two reworked additions to its desktop storage line. The 2big Quadra and 4big Quadra use a combination of high capacity RAID arrays and USB 3.0 ports, which LaCie has re-engineered to be optimized for computers that support the faster connection, and is a high-speed alternative to the company's Thunderbolt-only equivalents.

LaCie 2Big USB 3 gets speed, 6TB

LaCie today upgraded its external hard drives to both speed up and take advantage of a new wave of 3TB hard drives. The 2big USB 3.0 uses two of the drives to both hit 6TB and speed up by about 20 percent. LaCie estimates a peak transfer speed of 306MB per second, which it claims is the fastest ever for a two-bay RAID drive.
