NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 and 3D LightBoost arrive

NVIDIA picked its GeForce LAN 6 tourney to unveil the second generation of its 3D glasses hardware. 3D Vision 2 helps cure a common weakness of 3D by producing a twice as bright picture and improving the color saturation over traditionally washed out 3D video. The lenses are also 20 percent larger, immersing the gamer more in the image, and are made of softer materials that fit better with headphones.

ASRock website shows off HTPC with Sandy Bridge

A newly-discovered web page for an HTPC from ASRock reveals the computer has quietly taken an update to Sandy Bridge-based Intel processors. The Vision 3D 2nd-gen Series computer can be had with Core i3, i5 or i7 CPUs and also sports switchable 1GB GeForce GT 540M graphics, 4GB of RAM and a HDMI 1.4a port, in addition to four USB 3.0 jacks.

ViewSonic intros 24-inch V3D245 3D monitor

ViewSonic has announced that it will ship its new 24-inch V3D245 3D monitor this August for $500. The LED backlit monitor supports 1080p playback and includes an NVIDIA 3D Vision wireless emitter and matching 3D Vision glasses. It is designed to display 3D images on connected systems powered by NVIDIA GeForce-equipped PCs.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M hits mid-range

NVIDIA was the first to start off its Computex unveilings in earnest late Sunday by launching two notebook graphics chipsets and 3D glasses. The GeForce GTX 560M headlines the group and is designed to bring high-end gaming to moderately sized notebooks without hurting battery life. Its 192 processing cores, 192-bit memory bus, and 775MHz core clock speed give it enough speed to play games at 1080p, but as the first design with Optimus live graphics switching from major PC builders, it should still provide reasonable battery life by dropping to Intel video with less demanding tasks.

Acer shows Aspire Z5763 all-in-one with 3D screen

PC maker Acer has announced a new all-in-one PC meant for Europe, the Aspire Z5763. Unlike other all-in-ones from the company, this one is the first to use a 3D display. NVIDIA's 3D Vision system powers it, while the screen is a 23-inch, 1080p display. Buyers can choose from among three Intel processors: a 2.5GHz or 2.7GHz Core i5 or a 2.8GHz Core i7. Graphics cards choices include the NVIDIA GeForce GT440 or GeForce GT435M. Up to 16GB of RAM can be specified as well. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 are other options, as is an analog/digital TV tuner. A 5W stereo speaker system and a two-megapixel webcam are standard fare.

NVIDIA 3D Vision now works for web streaming

NVIDIA hoped to make 3D video accessible on the web on Tuesday and launched the 3DVision Plugin. The Silverlight code gives anyone with a set of 3D Vision glasses or similar the option of watching 3D video on the web with the same effects they would have seen offline. It can even support the automatic bitrate adaptation and copy protection of regular 2D clips.

ASUS shows ET2400 all-in-one PCs with HD screens

ASUS recently revealed a new line-up of all-in-one PCs with the ET2400 series. There are seven models, each with a 23.6-inch display with 1080p resolution. The top-level model, the ET2400XVT, gets a 120Hz, 3D panel alone, along with a 1.73GHz quad Core i7.

Digital Storm launches 3-screen, 3D gaming PCs

Digital Storm is now offering a number of PCs meant for multi-display 3D using NVIDIA's 3D Vision Surround. Each of the Black|OPS desktops includes three 23-inch 3D-ready monitors with a 1080p resolution from ASUS and one pair of 3D glasses. The base model gets a 2.8GHz AMD Phenom II X6 1055T CPU and two 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 graphics cards in an SLI configuration.

NVIDIA revamps Quadro line for new architecture

NVIDIA today began shipping its long promised Fermi-based Quadro workstation graphics cards. They share the same, DirectX 11-capable (and OpenGL 4.1) cores as the GeForce 400 series and are theoretically up to five times faster than the models they replace. At the top, the Quadro 6000 has a large 6GB of GDDR5 video memory and can handle as many as 1.3 billion triangles per second across its 448 processing cores.

iBuyPower intros GTX 460 desktops, 3D notebook

Gaming PC maker iBuyPower has unveiled three new systems, the two desktops getting NVIDIA's new GeForce GTX 460 graphics. The desktops are the Paladin E370 and the Paladin F860, while the notebook is the 3D-ready, 15.6-inch Battalion 101 W860CU-3D. The E370 uses a liquid-cooled 2.66GHz Core i5 and gets 4GB of RAM.
