Centrify deploys User Suite, brings Active Directory security to OS X

New suite cross platform, licensing covers Android, OS X, iOS, Windows

Centrify Corporation, a Unified Identity Services provider across data center, cloud and mobile, today announced the availability of the Centrify User Suite, Mac Edition -- the company's first solution to provide robust Active Directory-based authentication, policy management, single sign-on (SSO) and user self-service for connected and remote Mac OS X systems. Centrify says that with the program, on-premise machines, remote Macs, and mobile devices are seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Active Directory, utilizing organizations’ existing infrastructures, processes and skill sets to deliver enhanced security and easy management for IT, and simplified, secure access for Mac users at work.

Mountain Lion OS X Server app updated to version 2.21

Corrects bugs, enhances features, adds speed, Retina support

Apple has issued a minor update to its OS X Server app for Mountain Lion, now at version 2.21. The $20 program allows anyone with a Mountain Lion install to turn the OS into a server OS utilizing a suite of utilities included in the application. The update improves the speed of downloading Mac App Store software through improved caching, adds Time Machine service monitoring, brings Retina display support for the Wiki Server, adds the ability to use Active Directory groups in Profile Manager and more.

Apple takes Mac OS X 10.7.3 live

Apple on Wednesday afternoon posted Mac OS X 10.7.3 (release notes). The Lion upgrade adds several languages, including Catalan for Spaniards as well as Croatian, Greek, Hebrew, Romanian, Slovak, Thai, and Ukrainian. RAW photo compatibility has expanded to several new cameras, including the Nikon J1 and V1, Olympus' current PEN cameras, and current Sony Alpha and NEX cameras, such as the NEX-5N.

Centrify Corporation is now shipping its 2012 suite of security and access-management solutions for businesses and centralized server operations, which monitor, control and audit cross-platform systems and applications using Active Directory -- bringing those capabilities to UNIX, Linux and Mac environments. The new version improves centralized management of complex UNIX and Linux systems, employs real-time auditing, simplifies replacement of legacy NIS systems and expands platform support.

Likewise adds Snow Leopard support to authentication apps

Likewise Open 5.3, Enterprise 5.3 updates

Likewise has announced two new updates to its authentication software for Mac, Likewise Open 5.3 and Likewise Enterprise 5.3. The latest versions add support for 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Apple’s Snow Leopard operating system. Likewise Open is designed to connect Linux and Mac machines to a Microsoft Active Directory and authenticate users with their domain credentials.

Likewise Software has announced Likewise Enterprise 5.0, an update to its network management tool, offering better support for Mac integration in large-scale network environments. The new update will streamline Mac management by integrating Mac OS X Server settings into Group Policy Objects in Microsoft's Active Directory. Likewise allows users to access Managed Preferences (typically requiring a Windows machine) from the Likewise Administrative Console on a Mac station.

Likewise Software's new Likewise Open Fall 08 allows network administrators to remotely access, control and manage multiple computers across 118 platforms, including Mac OS X, Linux, UNIX and more, all from one point of control on any computer. Using a Microsoft Active Directory environment, Likewise Fall 08 integrates non-windows systems by providing Active Directory Authentication services, with Kerberos, NTLM and SPNEGO security protocols supported. Its administrative console allows network managers to access and manage computers from Mac, Linux and UNIX stations and includes an Active Directory editor, a users and groups manager and an eventlog viewer.

ADmitMac for CAC 2.0 ships

Thursby Software has released of ADmitMac for CAC (AFC) v2.0. AFC securely integrates U.S. Department of Defense Common Access Cards (CAC) with Macs. Using the Active Directory technology of Thursby Software's commercial ADmitMac product, AFC provides a solution for securing Macs without requiring a local password. AFC uses a single sign-on environment to Windows domains, verifying a CAC against a centralized network authority. It further validates that neither the card nor the privileges granted the user have been revoked. Using ADmitMac for CAC replaces the use of passwords with CAC/PIN security using Kerberos PKINIT.

Quark has announced Quark Publishing System 7.4, the second maintenance release of its industry leading collaborative workflow system. Based on Java, this release of QPS adds as support for Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, full text search and LDAP support. In addition, the new QPS Web Hub now runs with Apple's Safari browser as well as Firefox. QPS user names and passwords can now be managed through a company's active directory to consolidate user management. Full Text Search allows users to search document content within any assets that are stored in QPS. There is also the added ability for users to check in multiple assets at the same, and Russian and Polish interfaces are now available in QPS.

DAVE, ADmitMac for Leopard

Thursby Software Systems recently announced upgrades to its Mac networking products, DAVE 7.0 and ADmitMac 4.0, bringing compatibility with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The Arlington, Texas-based company says that the products offer significant networking stability over and above what Apple's operating system provides. Both updates are freely available from Thursby's website for users who purchased prior versions after July 31st, 2007, while new users can purchase DAVE for $120, and ADmitMac for $150, both of which have several licensing options.
