Apple's new photography app is superb

Ditch iPhoto, ditch Aperture, ditch Light -- okay, no, let's not go crazy here. You should probably keep Lightroom if you have it and definitely also Photoshop or Pixelmator. Hold on to those because Apple's new Photos app does not replace them -- but it is so very good that you'll find yourself using them less. You may also find yourself taking more photos. You just won't realize that the first time you open up Photos. This free app, included in the new OS X 10.10.3, is a very bald, white, minimalist application that initially takes some time to get going.

Adobe Lightroom 4.1 update official

Update alongside Camera Raw, DNG Converter 7.1

Adobeis offering an official upgrade to Lightroom after an extended beta release in conjunction with an update to Camera Raw. Lightroom has been updated to version 4.1, addressing several bugs introduced in prior versions of the software, as well as introducing the ability to process HDR TIFF files. Camera Raw is now on version 7.1 and adds support for 28 more cameras and 24 new lenses. Both upgrades are available now from Adobe.com or the update mechanism in Lightroom 4.

Adobe releases Photoshop Lightroom 3

New 64bit release offers watermark, output options

Adobe on Tuesday morning announced Photoshop Lightroom 3, an update to its digital photography workflow solution that allows photographers to quickly organize, enhance and showcase images. First released as a public beta in October 2009, the final version of Lightroom 3 introduces a completely redesigned performance-focused architecture that better handles growing image libraries and provides a more powerful raw processing engine with noise reduction and sharpening tools. Now 64-bit capable, Lightroom 3 also includes new features that optimize workflows and allow images to be shared in creative ways, including support for DSLR video files and tethered shooting on select cameras.

Adobe posts Lightroom 2.6, Camera RAW/DNG Converter 5.6

Adds support for popular camera models

Adobe has announced three new software updates, Lightroom 2.6, Photoshop Camera Raw 5.6 and DNG Converter 5.6. Originally posted as trial updates for community testing, the final versions offer added RAW file support for 20 popular camera models including the Nikon D3s, Canon EOS 7D, and Leaf Aptus II 5, as well as DNG support for Leica M9 and Ricoh GXR camera models.
