Jawbone Up now available with support for Android

Jawbone has released an Android version of its app for the Jawbone Up connected fitness tracker for devices running Android 4.0 and up. After an initial launch in 2011, the company revamped and relaunched the device in late 2012 for the iPhone only. Additionally, the company is expanding the availability of the Up into markets in Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East over the coming weeks.

HTC Desire S will not receive Android 4.0 OTA update

HTC is not creating an official over-the-air release of Android 4.0 for the Desire S. A update for the handset has been added to the HTC developer website, but according to Technytt.se, this is as far as HTC will go to updating the handset. Customers wanting the update will have to download it from the developer site and follow an install process instead.

Canadian carrier Rogers has release the schedule along which several Android handsets on its network will receive updates to Android 4.0. The schedule was revealed earlier today in a post on the Rogers Community Forums. Nine devices are listed in the post, with updates for the devices spread between now and early September.

Twitter account quashes Android 4.0 speculation

In yet another reversal, LG Canada has announced that the Optimus 2X will not be receiving an update to Android 4.0. In a tweet responding to a customer question, the company's Canadian arm clarified that a previous announcement from LG had in fact been a "general statement from HQ." LG Canada had nothing more to add on the matter.

A teaser video (shown below) on Huawei's YouTube page has revealed the company's new MediaPad 10 FHD. The 10.1-inch tablet boasts some powerful specs, and will ship with 160GB of cloud storage, as well as a number of other features. The video doesn't give any pricing or availability for the Android 4.0 device, which was initially supposed to launch in the spring of this year.

Sony has revealed a slew of new Walkman devices led by the arrival of its second Android-powered Walkman, the F800 Series. The new device joins the Walkman NW-Z1000 unveiled earlier this year which centers on a large 4.3-inch display, but only runs Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). The new 3.5-inch F800 ships out of the box with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), but shares the NW-Z1000's proprietary S-Master MX Digital Amplifier for superior audio reproduction.

Gingerbread continues to be the dominant Android installation

Android 4.0 is now running on just over a tenth of all Android-based smartphones, some eight and a half months since it was originally released. Statistics on the Android Developer website for devices accessing Google Play in a two-week period show Ice Cream Sandwich running on 10.9 percent of the Android ecosystem as of July 2. The recent release of the latest Android "hero" phones -- including the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X, along with updates to older devices that are starting to roll out -- are thought to be behind the boost.

Google Australia, Lego collaborate on Build Chrome app

Google Australia and Lego have created Build, a WebGL-based Lego construction app. Users can claim a plot of land on a map of Australia and New Zealand, and can build an object on a 32x32 starting base. Using 12 shapes in 10 different colors, builds can be saved and viewed by others on the Build with Chrome website. In a blog post, Google Australia voices hope that Build will expand to more regions in the future.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab line of tablets is slated to receive an update to the newest version of Android in the coming weeks. A source familiar with Samsung's plans has revealed to SamMobile blog that the Android 4.0 updates will begin rolling out to the Galaxy Tab line in July. Another update on the Samsung Mobile Hong Kong Facebook page confirmed that the updates will be rolling out next month.

Leak surfaces ahead of official ICS update for Xperia S

A leaked video (embedded below) has surfaced from Asia showing Sony’s current Android flagship, the Xperia S, running Android 4.04 (Ice Cream Sandwich). As the video shows, the company has managed to keep the look and feel of its custom Android launcher intact, while bringing with it all of the additional fluidity and function of ICS. Sony has revealed in its latest ICS update blog that the Xperia S is due to get its official install of current Google Android operating system by the end of June, although it has not officially made the beta release of the update public.

Users were informed that ‘Starting March 10, 2012, you may upgrade your Galaxy S II to Android Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) thru [sic] KIES 2.0.’ However, this date was abruptly kyboshed by Samsung Korea, which issued a statement saying that the March 10 date was incorrect and the any launch of the long awaited update for the GS II would be announced through its dedicated Twitter account.

The Samsung Galaxy S III may be powered by a 1.5GHz, quad-core Exynos processor and have a 4.8-inch, 1080p touchscreen if the latest specs leaked to BGR prove true. These are in line with earlier reports from the same source, and while the phone isn't officially being unveiled at the currently ongoing MWC, it's expected out soon. Otherwise, it's said the rear camera will be an eight-megapixel unit, with the front rated at two.

LG has continued with its pre-World Mobile Congress announcements, this time revealing the previously teased L-Style smartphone series. The L7 is a high-end smartphone that centers on a 4.3-inch widescreen display and the L5 is a mid-range device with a 4-inch display incorporating ‘enhanced readability’. Both phones are among a trickle of new devices starting to ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) as a standard install.
