Atrix to remain on Android 2.3

Motorola's Atrix 4G smartphone will not be receiving an upgrade to Android 4.0, despite the company's earlier promises that an update would be delivered this past quarter. The Atrix's status was confirmed today in an update to Motorola's Android software upgrade calendar. The Atrix 4G will remain on Android 2.3 for the foreseeable future.

The Motorola Edison, the sequel to the Atrix 4G, has been given a hands-on test by This is my next. In addition to being impressed with the overall design of the device, the most notable improvement is said to be in the display. Although fitted with a qHD display, the Atrix utilized a Pentile display; the new Edison maintains the same resolution, but switches to a different pixel grid making for clearer grey images in particular.

Atrix 4G drops to $100 at AT&T, dock to $300

The Motorola Atrix 4G smartphone can now be had for $100 on a two-year contract at AT&T. This is half the price of the handset when it was originally launched in March, suggesting sales are less than stellar. The phone’s specs are certainly attractive enough, with a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and 4-inch touchscreen.

Motorola details latest update for Atrix 4G

Motorola has given out full details of its new update for the Atrix 4G. Version 4.1.57 will not bring with it the promised HSUPA 3G compatibility or a fix for the voice quality problems, two of the major complaints surrounding the device. What it will improve is the Bluetooth multimedia experience, with support for more headsets.

Atrix 4G's laptop dock may have had multi-touch dropped

Shipping Atrix 4G dock lacks multi-touch support

A user on the XDA Developers forum, theproskater, reports having purchased the dock for the Motorola Atrix 4G smartphone and being disappointed that multi-touch input doesn't work. This was a bit of a shock, as the demo model at the AT&T store had a fully functioning touchpad, enabling two-finger scrolling in Firefox. Despite a few other docks spotted with the more capable touchpad, Motorola has maintained it doesn't plan to add the feature to the device in the future.

Those celebrating the early rooting of the Motorola Atrix 4G handset may be doing so prematurely, as an XDA Developers member maintained the partition is signed by Motorola. This keeps the files in the root can't be replaced by custom ones that include custom recovery or boot files. The practice is the same Motorola used for other handsets, including the Defy.

Radio Shack to sell Motorola Atrix 4G for $150

Radio Shack has announced that it will offer Motorola's Atrix 4G smartphone at a slight discount compared to other retailers, enabling customers to pick up the new handset for $150 with a two-year AT&T contract. The retailer is also offering a more modest discount on the Lapdock bundle, which includes the smartphone and a 11.6-inch netbook dock for $480.

The Atrix 4G flagship smartphone from Motorola may arrive sooner than previously expected, according to a new rumor. It may now arrive on February 22 rather than the expected March 1 ship date at AT&T leaked earlier, a tipster showed AndroidCentral. As proof, an image was sent over that depicts the new date and looks like an internal memo.

Kinsus leak gives iPhone 5 chipset, timing details

Some of the first iPhone 5 part details have emerged on Friday with insight into its launch timing. Taiwan's Kinsus is reportedly supplying 30 to 40 percent of the substrates for the Qualcomm chipsets that will provide cellular access. The Apple Daily sources had the iPhone 5 launching in spring and that Kinsus could by necessity ship its own parts as soon as this quarter, before the end of March.

Hands-on with Motorola's Xoom tablet, Atrix 4G smartphone

We check the Motorola Xoom and Atrix 4G first-hand

After Motorola's keynote, we had the rare opportunity to see and (in one case) test two of the brand new devices, the Xoom tablet and the Atrix 4G. Although it wasn't considered ready for hands-on time, the Xoom was clearly in working order and had Android 3.0 in full swing. What we got to see suggested that Google has made much better use of a large screen than on the Galaxy Tab; the home screen used a mix of apps and widgets well, and the e-book, media and YouTube apps all took good use of the space, even if they were sometimes overly flashy.
