Subscribers sent e-mail suggesting Rdio as replacement
BlackBerry is shutting down its BBM Music discovery service after being in operation for less than two years, with hefty competition from Spotify, Pandora, and others likely to be the cause for the closure. BBM Music will stop functioning for subscribers as of June 2nd, with the phone manufacturer pointing customers in the direction of Rdio with a free 30-day trial as a possible replacement.

T-Mo BlackBerry Bold 9900, Torch 9810 get 7.1
T-Mobile has updated its versions of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and Torch 9810 to BlackBerry 7.1 with more than just the basic OS in store. The updates (EXE for 9900, EXE for 9810) both add support for voice calls over Wi-Fi, bringing a feature back not seen in most recent T-Mobile BlackBerrys. The format isn't using UMA (unlicensed mobile access) and won't automatically transfer calls to GSM or 3G if the caller wanders outside of Wi-Fi range.

Waivers $5 monthly fee for 2 months
AT&T is offering its BlackBerry subscribers running BlackBerry 7 phones two months of free BBM Music. The carrier has tweeted that it has downloaded the offer to users' media folders. BBM is RIM's cloud-based music service that the company launched in November (BlackBerry App World).

BBM Music reaches BlackBerry devices Wednesday
RIM on Wednesday offered its first self-run music option in earnest with a promised launch for BBM Music. The finished version of the cloud music service should reach BlackBerry App World later in the day for Canada and the US. In both countries, it should cost about $5 per month, although RIM is temporarily giving a two-month free trial to help get users onboard.

RIM posts BBM Music in beta
RIM quickly confirmed rumors Thursday and launched BBM Music. True to expectations, the cloud music service is unusual in deliberately limiting each member to 50 songs of their own. To expand the library, listeners have to be BlackBerry Messenger friends with others also subscribed to the service, gaining access to their catalog. The goal is not just to tie users to BBM but to help them discover songs they wouldn't have found on their own.
