RIM may axe Colt and Milan as chances slim

RIM may have slashed two out of the three BlackBerry 10 phones it was planning to launch this year, a rumor emerging Thursday said. The Colt and Milan were said by BGR to have been dropped, leaving just the touch-only London. The Milan may not have even been a BB10 phone, instead being a BlackBerry 7 QWERTY slider that carriers didn't want given how similar it would have been to the Torch 9810.

RIM faces verdict in 'BBM' suit, may have used BBX knowingly

RIM sued by BBM Canada for misusing name

RIM was found Friday to be facing another lawsuit over one of its core products. Broadcast group BBM Canada is now known to have sued RIM on August 12, 2010, and to face a hearing on January 11, 2012, for allegedly misusing the BBM term to refer to BlackBerry Messenger. Unlike most such cases, BBM Canada could point to genuine cases of confusion, the Globe and Mail said, with staff being mistaken for RIM workers and an analytics branch being mistakenly called for messaging help.

BlackBerry Milan to be BB10 Torch sequel

RIM's rumored BlackBerry Milan may have solidifed after details and a conceptual rendering appeared Wednesday. The BlackBerry 10 phone is now thought by CrackBerry sources to be a vertical QWERTY slider much like the Torch 9800 series. As described, it would have some angular elements like the London but would have more of the signature black, with all of the dedicated hardware buttons and trackpad of a current BlackBerry removed in favor of, presumably, bezel gestures.

RIM blocked from using BBX trademark during event

12/06, 10:45pm

RIM barred from using name of next OS

RIM faced a symbolic setback for its platform Tuesday after BASIS successfully landed a temporary block on the use of the BBX name. An Albuquerque court determined that the upcoming BlackBerry platform's use was "identical" to BASIS' mobile app platform and had to stop during BlackBerry DevCon Asia between December 7 and 8. Letting RIM use the trademark could confuse people and make them think that BASIS' app platform would only work on the unreleased platform, the court argued.

RIM reacts to being abandoned by Adobe on Flash

RIM will keep working on Flash on the BlackBerry PlayBook despite Adobe's exit from mobile Flash, the company said in a statement. It vowed to AllThingsD that, as a licensee of Adobe's source code, it would work on its own variant on Flash. Barclays does not believe RIM on time with new OS

Barclays Capital analyst Jeff Kvaal on Tuesday cut his share price target for RIM by almost half from $40 to $23 after casting doubt on promises that its first phone based on BBX would ship around early 2012. He believed that the hardware had been quietly delayed based on the typical carrier certification process. As it usually takes half a year to get a phone fully approved, any phone would ship in late winter at best and more likely sometime in mid-year, Kvaal said.
