Said to have won 'guarantee' on IP rights

Apple CEO Tim Cook continued his visit to China on Tuesday, winning a "guarantee" regarding intellectual property rights from the second-in-command of China's government during a meeting with Vice Premier Li Keqiang in Beijing. Cook has been meeting with Chinese officials and has visited at least one of the five official mainland Apple retail stores in China during his visit. By coincidence, Facebook head Mark Zuckerberg was spotted in Shanghai yesterday as well.

Early photos of Beijing Apple Store emerge

Some of the first photos of the Beijing Apple Store have made their way online, according to a French site. MacPlus says it has obtained a number of photos of the location, which is on Sanlitun street within the Chaoyang district; the site specifically notes that the store is inside a commercial complex called The Village, also home to companies like Nike and Zara. The district as a whole is being revamped to present an appealing image to foreigners visiting during the Olympics.

Athletes allowed to blog from Beijing Olympics

Athletes can blog in China

The International Olympics Committee today gave its official approval for athletes to blog while at the Beijing games in August, providing that they do not publish media of the event or Olympic properties. Reuters reports that the IOC recognizes blogging as a form of personal expression, and not that of a journalistic nature. An additional stipulation states that any postings must adhere to the Olympic spirit, being "dignified and in good taste."

Beijing Apple Store coming by 2008 Olympics

Beijing Apple Store site

The exact location of Apple's first Chinese store has been uncovered, according to reports. Although it had been known for some time that the store would be built in Beijing, and would open prior to the 2008 Olympic Summer Games in August, it is only now that some of the final details have emerged. The store will be located on Qianmen Street, a road on the south side of Tiananmen Square that is undergoing a $40 million renovation in advance of the Olympics.
