Microsoft PowerCost Monitor sends power use to PCs
Microsoft dipped into actual hardware involvement for its Hohm service by teaming with Blue Line on an update to the PowerCost Monitor. The power meter can now link into Microsoft's Hohm energy saving system and includes a Wi-Fi Gateway that clamps on to the power meter; data sent from the meter can reach the local network and upload usage to Hohm for access on a computer. The approach makes it easier to gauge usage habits and identify if a particular device is using too much power.
