B&W updates aging M-1 speakers, subwoofers
Bowers & Wilkins has updated its Mini Theater range, including the aging M-1 compact speakers with new drivers, while the PV1D subwoofer enjoyed a more thorough reworking. It gets the same digital platform as the range-topping DB1 and a fresh OLED display. The dynamic EQ has also been updated and the woofer now goes down to 7.5Hz.
Apple Australia tips Black Friday early
Apple Australia and New Zealand have crossed into Friday and have started Black Friday deals that confirm earlier leaks. Both are offering discounts on all iPads, the iPod nano and iPod touch. The MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac are all also on sale.
Bowers and Wilkins C5 targets iPhone runners
Bowers & Wilkins broke from its focus on external audio Monday through launching the C5s. The in-ear headphones are tailored to runners with a new 'secure loop' that should keep the buds in an ideal position rather than gradually slip out. Even the weighting, made of tungsten, is designed to keep the design comfortable by balancing them towards the head rather than away from it, the company said.
Bowers and Wilkins outs PM1 with extra-clean sound
Bowers & Wilkins on Tuesday rolled out a new high-end speaker array that promised higher power in a small footprint. The PM1 is unique in having a tweeter dome on each speaker ringed with carbon fiber that pushes the limits of where it can manage clean sound. Where its usual aluminum Nautilus tweeters' break-up frequency hits 30kHz, the carbon fiber raises that to 40kHz and widens the speakers' useful range, particularly at 20kHz.
Makes several upgrades over original Zeppelin
Audio specialist Bowers & Wilkins has announced the Zeppelin Air, a new luxury speaker system aimed at iPhone, iPod and iPad users. While equipped with a dock, the Air's main feature is support for AirPlay, Apple's recently-introduced wireless streaming technology. Any AirPlay-compatible device can stream audio to the speaker, including computers running iTunes.
Bowers & Wilkins P5 headphones soon
Bowers & Wilkins signaled its intent to get into portable audio on Monday by previewing the P5, its first portable headphone set. The over-ear, cupped headphones have received few details but should include a built-in microphone and remote compatible with the iPhone and newer iPods, such as the iPod touch and iPod shuffle. They're also claimed to be partly noise isolating and will passively reduce most background sounds.
B&W Zeppelin Mini for iPhone, iPod
Bowers & Wilkins on Monday reached out with a lower-priced version of its more audiophile-grade iPhone and iPod speaker dock. The Zeppelin Mini drops the ovoid shape of its predecessor but is noticeably smaller and still produces a very high 100W of total power. Also, a new rotating dock lets iPhone, iPod touch and iPod nano owners keep their devices in landscape mode for Cover Flow or movie watching.
