Boxee in a direct criticism contended that cable companies were being anti-competitive in lobbying to drop a requirement that basic cable stay unencrypted. Boxee matches it up with an easy-to-use schedule to give a view of current and upcoming shows to pick by name rather than by the channel.

Adobe has followed up its cancellation of mobile Flash with a statement extending that end to TVs as well. Just referred to as Boxee Live TV, it would let viewers plug a USB TV tuner in to watch over-the-air or unprotected cable TV through the Boxee Box, without having to switch input. GigaOM's sighting also revealed that it could share viewing data with friends, hinting that it might scrape channel or show details.
