HTC introduces Mini, companion handset for Butterfly smartphone

In a sign that 5-inch handsets may be a little more than some people can comfortably handle, HTC has introduced a companion handset accessory for its Butterfly 5-inch smartphone in China. Making a mockery of convergence, the HTC Mini is a dumb terminal that is NFC-equipped and connects over Bluetooth to the Butterfly allowing the user make calls over a more convenient form factor. Additionally, it can also function as a remote control for the Butterfly along with a few other tricks.

HTC M7, One X successor leaks out ahead of MWC

HTC’s successor the to One X may have made an early appearance thanks to an Android Police tipster. The photograph shows a device featuring HTC’s revised design language for the 2013 model year, and is very similar to the Droid DNA and the HTC Butterfly. Also supplied are some purported screenshots of HTC’s latest Sense 5.0 UI, which reflects a cleaner, Windows Phone 8-style look.

HTC Butterfly latest variant of HTC's latest flagship to hit the market

The HTC Butterfly , which features a 5-inch 1080p display with 440ppi, is headed to China Unicom for a mid-December launch. Further, an international version is also expected to launch with 3G around the same time and could be labeled the HTC Deluxe DLX. The Butterfly is already on sale as the J Butterfly in Japan and the Droid DNA in the US.

Five-inch handset unlikely to be released elsewhere

HTC is soon to release a long-awaited phone-tablet, with the initial launch taking place in Japan. The HTC J Butterfly, a previously rumored phablet set to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note line, has a five-inch HD Super LCD 3 display, capable of a 1920x1080 resolution, and a density of 440 pixels per inch.
