Canaccord sees Samsung regain lead in 2012
Samsung should retake the edge in the smartphone space as of the first quarter, Canaccord Genuity said in early estimates. Analyst T. Michael Walkley saw Samsung going back to 28.2 percent share on the back of 41 million smartphones. Apple would have its strongest winter ever, but at 32.6 million iPhones would have a more modest 22.4 percent.
Analyst shows iPhone 4S holding off rivals
The iPhone 4S held off the Galaxy Nexus for the top spot in smartphones on Verizon, Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley found through channel checks. Apple's newest phone still had the top sales spot on every major US carrier that sells it in December, keeping the first Android 4.0 phone at second place. As before, the only carrier where Apple didn't lead was T-Mobile, where it doesn't participate.
Analyst has Apple, Samsung win at cost of HTC, RIM
Apple and Samsung have been gradually taking over the US smartphone market, Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley said in a research note Tuesday. Based on channel checks e saw all three iPhone models gain real-world sell-through share in November and the iPhone 4S continue to be the top seller at AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon. Samsung had achieved a rare feat, however, and saw the Galaxy S II take the second-place spot away from the regular iPhone 4 on AT&T.
Market still feeling effects of Thai floods
Although the floodwaters have receded in Thailand, the disaster is still said to be affecting supply chains in the tech industry. Canaccord Genuity analyst Bobby Burleson suggests Intel has been forced to stockpile its microprocessors as a "direct result" of the hard drive shortages that resulted from flooded factories located in Thailand.
Canaccord says BlackBerry 7 not keeping pace
Sales of BlackBerry 7 phones like the Bold 9900 have tapered off in the face of stiff competition, Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley said in a research note Friday. Based on "recent checks," he saw slowing sales to actual customers in the past two weeks. The drop came even with the launch of the AT&T Bold 9900.
Canaccord ups iPhone targets but sees Android high
Apple is seeing stepped up iPhone sales that will increase its total share, but not necessarily enough to stop Android from getting half of the market, Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Wakley said in two research notes. Checks last month showed the iPhone was still the top phone at AT&T and Verizon despite pressure from Android. He boosted his estimates from 75.5 million iPhones in 2011 to 77.3 million based on both the popularity and increased expectations Apple would ship the iPhone 5 in September.
Canaccord says iPhone strong but RIM, Motorola low
An investment note from Canaccord Genuity lead analyst T. Michael Walkley on Monday suggested that some of the halo devices for Android and BlackBerry were struggling to get sales even as Apple was succeeding. The iPhone and iPad were still selling very well at AT&T and Verizon in April and, in many cases, were outselling flagship Android devices. The iPhone 4 was the best-selling smartphone at both carriers, and the $49 iPhone 3GS was outselling both the HTC Inspire 4G and Motorola Atrix, according to checks at several stores.
Intel drops chip prices by 50pc to recover sales
Intel is slashing processor prices to keep demand alive and possibly to offset the iPad effect, Canaccord Genuity analyst Bobby Burleson said today. The chip producer was reported in checks as having cut prices by half on Atom, Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 chips and by 15 percent for some chipsets. The move was predicted to fuel short-term demand, though it would come mostly from computer builders stocking up.
