Judge rules CCI's 'six strikes' program relevant to porn studio suit

Despite the ostensible goal of the US Center for Copyright Information's (CCI) "six strikes" program being education, US Magistrate Judge Mark Dinsmore has ruled that the center must divulge Copyright Alert System (CAS) warnings. Pornography studio Malibu Media is seeking messages that the CCI sent to one of its many lawsuit targets, and will be used as proof of the woman's alleged copyright violations in court.

Comcast is said to be working on its own alternative to the Copyright Alert System (CAS) anti-piracy system, also known as "six strikes," operated by the Center for Copyright Infromation (CCI). The rumored system would see Comcast providing users identified as downloading infringing content links to buy or rent the content legally.

MarkMonitor system think video game mod is one of six possible videos

The first of the Center for Copyright Information system infringement notices have gone out, according to some of the ISPs enrolled in the plan. The MarkMonitor system at the core of the "six strikes" initiative is under fire again in a report on TechDirt, for misidentifying a legal game mod for Guild Wars hosed on the MediaFire file locker service as either television shows Downton Abbey, Contraband, Grimm, House MD, or the Office, or possibly the film The Man With the Iron Fists.

New user monitoring system powered by error-prone MarkMonitor

As expected, the Center for Copyright Information's BitTorrent monitoring system has launched, but with all five previously-announced ISPs starting up in one day. Participating ISPs in the measure, also known as "six strikes," include Verizon, Comcast, AT&T, Cablevision, and Time Warner, plus all subsidiaries of the parent companies.

Sources familiar with the matter claim all five ISPs commence this week

According to reports, the much-delayed "six strikes" copyright enforcement monitoring system will go live over the next week, with Internet provider Comcast launching on Monday. The Copyright Alert System (CAS), run by the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) has no official launch date, and has been held up by implementation issues, and the damaging effects of Superstorm Sandy. ISPs AT&T, Cablevision, Comcast, Time Warner, and Verizon are all signed up for the system.

US music, movie labels plan giant copyright center

Center for Copyright Information due soon

Major movie labels along with their music equivalents will soon reveal plans to open up a Center for Copyright Information (CCI) in their fight against piracy, CNET reported on Monday. The organization will be charged with supervising the graduated response method suggested by the RIAA for Internet providers. Outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (PDF), the center would also involve the major Internet service providers themselves, such as AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon.
