HTC reportedly using unique metal-plastic combo for phones

Process makes chassis stronger

Sources at smartphone component makers say that at least one of HTC's new smartphones will use a metal-plastic combination process developed by Taiwan-based Chenming Mold Industrial for the handset chassis. Metal cases provide greater protection, but are more difficult and expensive to manufacture and can interfere with phones' internal antenna. Chenming's Nano Molding Technology process retains the strength advantage of metal and the malleability of plastic. Chenming Chairman Mu-ho Lin has not identified clients, other than stating that the process has been certified by several first-tier handset vendors.
