Sony has launched two broadcast-quality CineAlta PL-mount video cameras to go alongside the F65. The PMW-F55 and the PMW-F5 both contain 4K Super 35mm image sensors capable of an 11.6 million pixel, 4096x2160 resolution image. While the PMW-F5 can output HD and 2K video, the PMW-F55 extends this to 4K resolution imagery.
Sony has teased the release of a new professional-level camcorder. An image for an event on October 30th appeared on the company's Facebook account and shows camera equipment marked with CineAlta, Sony's high-end cinematography brand, along with a hashtag for something called "The New F."
Sony followed up on its promises at the start of the week by shipping its first CineAlta F65 pro video camera. Movie camera rental firm Otto Nemenz International picked up the 4K-capable camera. About 400 pre-orders had lined up, with "at least two" large studios planning to start using their F65s almost immediately on projects.
