Stitcher Radio for iOS adds background uploading, other updates

Stitcher Radio -- an app that streams a variety of radio shows, podcasts and live stations -- has been updated for iOS. Stitcher v6.1 offers the ability to connect one's recent-model Jaguar or Land Rover vehicle to the app, allowing control through the MySpin interface. Background updating, now included, means that new episodes of shows within a user's playlist can be automatically downloaded for offline listening. Additionally included in the update is better support for saving Front Page Headlines, enhancements and bug fixes. The Stitcher app is free to download, with a three-month subscription to the radio service priced at $6 as an in-app purchase.

HP shows off Citrix Receiver app on TouchPad

HP's upcoming TouchPad tablet has been given some more information regarding its compatibility with Citrix Receiver. The video below, about halfway through, shows off how the enterprise-friendly software works on the webOS tablet. The program opens in the browser and then lets users access desktop apps much like its iPad equivalent.

Drobo for business targets big users

Drobo on Tuesday brought out its first range of Drobo business drives aimed both at companies and at home users with very high demands. The eight-bay B800fs and B800i, as well as the 12-bay B1200i, are speed-optimized beyond their regular counterparts and have new management tools along with extra after-the-sale support and services. All have been greenlit to work with Citrix, Exchange, SharePoint, Symantec backup, and VMware.

Apple, Oracle team on open Java project for Mac OS X

Apple and Oracle plan OpenJDK for Java in Lion

Apple and Oracle today set out plans for a new version of OpenJDK to keep bringing Java to Macs. The deal will see Apple give the tools and resources needed to bring Java SE 7 to Mac OS X, such as class libraries, networking, a visual client and both 32- and 64-bit HotSpot-based virtual machines. The Oracle project will make the technology ready to be used by open-source developers that could add to or improve Java on the Mac.

Omni Group, Citrix, SugarSync launch new iPad apps

Apps add business, communications capabilities

SugarSync Inc has launched its file sync app for the iPad, SugarSync,and Citrix Systems has released its online meeting app GoTo Meeting. Also being released on the eve of the iPad launch is The Omni Group's OmniGraffle for diagramming, charting, page layout and website wireframing and OmniGraphSketcher for graphing and chart-making. The Omni Groups' completely redesigned its iPhone apps for iPad, with OmniGraffle focusing on diagramming and concept visualization, using Multi-Touch to draw shapes, drag in objects, and design elements. The app keeps lines connected to shapes even when they're moved, and includes smart guides, automatic layout, and a full set of built-in stencils. OmniGraphSketcher allows fast, simple graph drawing and data plotting -- It lets users create lines and data points, draw curves, and shade in important areas easily.

XenDesktop on Apple TV

In brief: Tekkeon has released a new iPhone case which also integrates a built-in battery. The battery is said to double the life of the iPhone and is directly integrated into the leather exterior of the case. Craneballs studios has announced that its new iPhone game, Blimp: The Flying Adventures, should be available next week. The game takes players on a journey where they must protect their planet from an invasion. Meanwhile, Citrix has posted a new video which briefly outlines how to use an Apple TV to remotely access a computer. The video is fairly brief but shows the basic functionality of an Apple TV running XenDesktop such as running PowerPoint and Windows Media Player.

Citrix promises remote Windows access for iPhone

Citirix apps iPhone-bound

Citrix will bring its XenDesktop and XenApp applications to the iPhone, the company has announced. XenApp is used to virtualize individual Windows programs such as Excel or SAP, which can then be run remotely in a client-server configuration; XenDesktop expands this concept to cover an entire XP or Vista system. For the iPhone the software will be mainly be tweaked to use multi-touch commands, such as pinching and panning.
