Coby has begun shipping several of its Android 4.0 tablets that were first introduced earlier this year at CES. The two models that will arrive this month include the seven-inch Kyros MID7042-4 and the 9.7-inch Kyros MID9742-B, both focused on the entry-level tablet market.
Coby has just revealed it will bring five Android 4.0-powered tablets to CES in January. They will include the seven-inch MID7042, eight-inch MID8042, nine-inch MID9042, 9.7-inch MID9742, and 10-inch MID1042. All will be powered by the same 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor and up to 1GB of RAM.
Tablet makers that have focused most of their time producing cheap alternatives to the iPad are themselves being squeezed by the Amazon Kindle Fire, the retail field acknowledged early Tuesday. Coby Electronics is planning on introducing the first sub-$100 netbook by March of next year, according to a Tuesday report. The appropriately named Midget PC will initially include models with 7- and 9-inch screens and be capable of performing 90 percent of consumer applications and have pre-loaded drivers for all major brands of printers and other peripherals, says Bob Gee, Coby's marketing director.
