Eight drivers arranged in vertical line array
Collins America on Thursday introduced the BagAmp, a portable amplifier system geared for musicians. The system features the company's "Audio Piston" technology that eliminates the need for the rubber ring that holds a typical speaker cone in place. The flat-faced drivers, measuring 3 inches, are claimed to produce similar sound to many 5-inch drivers.

CinemaView 24 and 47
Collins America today revamped its yet-to-be-released CinemaView displays built for newer Macs with Mini DisplayPort connectors as well as a TV add-on. The new display line is overall larger and will start with the 24-inch model; as before, the CinemaView 24 will bear similarity to Apple's LED Cinema Display but produce a 1080p resolution. The new screen moves from three to four USB ports and now has a 2ms pixel response time and a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio. Its pricing hasn't changed at $499, but its launch has been moved back two months to October.

CinemaView Displays
Taking advantage of Apple's royalty-free Mini DisplayPort spec, Collins America has launched a set of LCDs under the CinemaView label that it says are the first to use the format outside of Apple. The designs all shadow the aluminum, black and glass look of Apple's LED Cinema Display but use less costly panels while keeping most of the functionality through an all-in-one cable. Collins keeps the display and USB links but replaces the MagSafe connector with a direct audio minijack connection for the display's speakers.
