Color app partners with Verizon, will ship on 4G phones

The Color app which isn't a stranger to reinventing itself has now partnered up with Verizon. In this new iteration, which will see the app come preloaded on some of Verizon's Android LTE smartphones, users will get the ability to stream what they're recording live and in HD, while simultaneously saving a local copy. Verizon customers will also have an exclusive feature that allows adding sound to the recording.

Yanobox, a development house that produces plugs-in for FxFactory, has debuted a new "next-generation" color grading and correction module called Moods that works with Final Cut Pro X, Motion (versions 3, 4 and 5) and Adobe's After Effects (CS3 through CS5.5). The plug-in, which can be purchased separately, features a "heads-up display" that overlays on the video, allowing for full-screen color work with HD or SD footage.

Color for Facebook turns to 30-second live bursts

Having struggled with its original implementation, Color has started up a private beta of a new iOS and Android app with a reinvented focus. Color for Facebook drops the original local photo sharing in favor of sharing 30-second video "visits." The 30-second clips are silent segments to give the feel for an environment and can be watched live, not just as a pre-recorded clip.

Facebook music and video sharing unveiled at f8

Facebook continued its string of news at f8 by detailing its media sharing. Part of a new system of verbs that replace the generic Like, it focuses most on music: users can spot someone listening to a song in the live ticker and start listening to the same track. Services will still need to launch the separate app if it exists, but the method will let anyone listen to similar content if it exists in a subscription service.

Matrox MXO2 LE

Matrox this evening launched a new portable breakout box aimed specifically at Mac users editing at a pro level with Final Cut Studio. The MXO2 LE takes SDI, component, RCA and 10-bit HDMI video input from cameras or other sources and puts them in formats immediately usable by Color, Final Cut Pro and other apps in the suite, such as Apple's in-house ProRes 4:2:2 HQ format. It can also work with non-Apple software like After Effects and uses an XLR power input, making it friendly to a MacBook Pro at a video shoot where XLR may be more common than AC outlets.

Apple updates FCP 6.05

Apple on Thursday released new updates to professional video and audio suites, including Final Cut Pro 6.05, Compressor 3.0.5, Color 1.0.3 and Shake 4.1.1. Apple says the Pro Applications Update 2008-04, a revision to Final Cut Studio 2.0. addresses general performance issues and improves overall stability. Final Cut Pro 6.0.5 addresses specific issues such as improved rendering of still images and footage in high-resolution formats and adding the ability to capture the additional metadata for footage recorded with the Panasonic AG-HMC150 professional AVCHD camcorder and the extended metadata that is available with P2 cards; the update also improves reliability when importing files from the Panasonic HDC-SD9 camcorder.
