Previously wasted 500 pages per person, per week

The Denver Broncos are transitioning to iPad playbooks for the new season, says the Denver Post. The NFL team previously printed new paper books each week for all of its 120 staff members, including players, coaches, scouts, and others. Each book measured roughly 500 pages, wasting substantial amounts of money and paper.

Comcast dips toes into live...

Initial access limited to Denver, Nashville

Comcast has begun an initial rollout of its AnyPlay TV service for the iPad. The technology allows Comcast subscribers to watch live TV over their home Wi-Fi network, regardless of what someone may be watching on a TV in another room. On top of the Wi-Fi restriction, though, the option is currently available only to Xfinity HD Triple Play subscribers, and just those in Denver and Nashville.

Upgrades planned for other shops

Apple's rapid retail expansion plans also appear to include new shops in Denver, Colorado and Sarasota, Florida. A source indicates that a second Denver outlet will be built at Union Station, which is being rehabilitated to make it a major hub for transportation, commerce and gatherings. The developer includes an Apple logo in a video rendering of the project, but this is now claimed to be more than just wishful thinking.

Verizon to get at least 11 ...

Total 4G cities to total 116 after additions

Verizon is reportedly preparing to launch its 4G network in at least 11 new cities by August 18, continuing the company's trend of monthly LTE rollouts across the country. New cities are expected to include Council Bluffs, Iowa; Ithaca, Syracuse and Albany, New York; Fort Collins, Colorado; Provo/Orem, Utah; Salinas/Monterey and Bakersfield, California; Omaha, Nebraska; and Altoona and Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Expansion of 4G coverage is also expected in Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio and Rockland County, New York.

Garmin lets users upload paper maps

Garmin on Wednesday introduced a new Custom Maps capability that lets users take existing paper or digital maps and upload them to their portable Garmin navigators. The free service is compatible with Dakota, Oregon and Colorado outdoor GPS handhelds. Those using Macs and PCs can use the service.

New stores for Sept. 20th

Apple has scheduled four new store openings for this weekend, all on September 20th, and exclusively within the United States. The first of these is the rumored location for San Mateo, California, which will open inside the Hillsdale Mall. Also opening for California is the North County store in Escondido, situated at272 East Via Rancho Parkway. Both shops should launch at 10AM local time.

New Garmin GPS systems

Garmin recently unveiled its Colorado series of handheld GPS units, and the Forerunner 405 wrist-worn GPS device, as well as the super-sized Nuvi 5000 for use in large vehicles. The Colorado 400t uses a 3-inch color screen to display three-dimensional topographic maps, and is pre-loaded with a complete map covering the US. Tracks, waypoints, and geocaches can be wirelessly transferred with other units, and the device’s “Rock n Roller” thumbwheel makes the device easy to navigate. Garmin will show the new lineup at CES 2008, and although a release date was not mentioned, the Colorado 400 series devices sell for $600.
