As the Android market continues to expand with a variety of handsets offering similar specs and capabilities, Samsung has introduced a device with a truly unique display configuration. Electronista has taken a closer look at the Continuum, a dual-display smartphone which was detailed in several leaks approaching the formal unveiling.
Samsung's Continuum handsets have already started to arrive at Verizon stores ahead of the official launch. Images posted on Android Life show boxes of the Android-based devices ready to sell to customers, following the arrival of dummy models for the retail displays. The Continuum is widely expected to be formally unveiled on Monday at Samsung's special event in New York.
A fresh leak suggests Verizon may be preparing to sell Motorola's Droid Pro handset for $179, which would fall well below the $299 price tag hinted at in an earlier rumor. While the price appears to be slightly lower than expected for the high-end smartphone, the device will likely compete with Motorola's own Droid 2 Global handset.
Another leak from Verizon has confirmed some of the earlier reports about the upcoming Samsung Continuum. According to the latest source, the new handset will be virtually identical the Samsung Fascinate and other Galaxy S phones, including a 1GHz processor, a five megapixel camera, and mobile hotspot capability. The obvious differences spotted by Droid-Life are a a 3.4-inch, 480x800 AMOLED main screen and a 96x400 secondary display.
A Verizon rebate form has just been leaked online thanks to Engadget, revealing a number of upcoming smartphones at the carrier. This includes two different listings for the upcoming Droid 2 Global, each carrying a $100 rebate. A Droid Pro is also listed, though there is only one model, leading many to believe there will be camera and cameraless versions of the Droid 2 Global, not the Pro.
