Pioneer disc burner supports 3D Blu-ray movies, due early in May
Pioneer has just detailed its new BDR-2207 internal Blu-ray burner that supports BDXL optical media with capacities of up to 128GB. Calling it its most powerful and full-featured drive, Pioneer said it can write at up to 12x speeds onto BD-R and BD-R DL media as well. There is a SATA connection onboard as well, and the bundled CyberLink software lets users play back Blu-ray movies on a PC. With the proper hardware behind it, users can watch 3D Blu-ray content using the drive as well.

CyberLink outs $20 PowerDVD Mobile Android app
CyberLink this week released new updates to the PowerDVD 11 software, one of which includes the PowerDVD Mobile app. Available for Android tablets ($20, Android Market), the app will allow wireless multimedia playback between DLNA devices and the tablet. It allows users to connect to PowerDVD on the PC and access media with the Save To and Share On features.

Zotac unveils rare Blu-ray nettops
Zotac today staked out new ground in nettops today by launching a pair of nettops with Blu-ray out of the box. Both the ZBOX HD-ID33 and HD-ID34 are highly stylized and designed to be in place at a home theatre. To match the optical drive, both have the performance needed to handle 1080p video without a hitch, including the more recent 1.8GHz Atom D525 dual-core processor and an NVIDIA Ion that takes care of most video decoding work.

Plextor outs portable, external Blu-ray drive
Plextor on Wednesday released a new wave of external Blu-ray disc drive, the PX-B120U. It's entirely USB powered but still reads Blu-ray discs at 4X. Cyberlink Power DVD software is included with the drive to play either HD movies or to upscale standard definition to a similar level of quality.

AMD, CyberLink to show off Blu-ray 3D at CES
Chipmaker AMD on Monday announced that it will demonstrate the future Blu-ray stereoscopic 3D standard at CES early in January. The technology is expected to be made available for sale during the latter half of 2010. AMD will join with software maker CyberLink to demonstrate the technology at its booth for the show.
