Monitored list of 11 million hotspots to help mobile users
Microsoft is using a crowdsourced "curated" hotspot system in Windows Phone 8, in an effort to help its mobile users manage their mobile data costs. DeviceScape is providing the technology behind the Data Sense Wi-Fi map, including data for over 11 million hotspots that have been tested for speed and connection quality.

Intel partners with DeviceScape for built-in free Wi-Fi
Intel has completed a deal with DeviceScape to use its connection management technology, a partnership that will see future Intel Ultrabooks and tablets with access to a global Wi-Fi network. According to GigaOm, Intel's partners will have the option to ship their Intel-based computers with a public wireless connection already active.

Eye-Fi gets automatic sign on for Boingo and more
Eye-Fi today added both a new card and a major expansion of its support for hotspot cards. The 4GB Geo X2 combines the geolocation support of the original Geo with the Class 6 (6MBps) transfer speeds, 802.11n Wi-Fi and "endless" memory of other X2 cards. It's targeted primarily at Mac users using Aperture 3 or iPhoto '09 and will be available only through Apple stores in May for $70.
