Drop-off before iPhone 4S has no effect
The iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS held on as the US' bestselling smartphones during the third quarter of 2011, according to new NPD Group data. Following behind in the top five were two Android-based phones -- the HTC EVO 4G and the Motorola Droid 3 -- as well as the Samsung Intensity II, which NPD classifies as a smartphone even though the device is more basic than most. The updated top phone list is almost identical to one for Q2, the only difference being the Droid 3 replacing the HTC Inspire 4G.

List of supported devices slowly expands
Hulu has continued to slowly expand the list of Android devices supported by the company's Hulu Plus app. The latest release adds support for a variety of smartphones, including HTC's Incredible 2, EVO 3D and Sensation; Motorola's Droid 3, Bionic and X2; and LG's Revolution and G2X. Aside from the handsets, the app can also be accessed from HTC's Flyer tablet.

Motorola Droid 3 set to land new update
Motorola Droid 3 users are set to receive a new update that adds GTalk video chat. The new Android build is 5.6.890.XT862 and is 57.6MB in size. In addition to the new video chatting capability, users can look forward to over 30 bug fixes and additional functionality.

Motorola Droid 3 already up for sale on Verizon
The Motorola Droid 3 has gone up for sale on Verizon’s website. It is available for $200 on a two-year plan plus data package, or it can be purchased outright for $460. As expected, it will feature a dual-core TI OMAP4430 chip and the same 4-inch qHD 540x960 display found in the Motorola Atrix. It also runs Android 2.3 and is global capable, suggesting that it virtually identical to the Motorola Milestone 3 that is launching simultaneously in China.

Motorola Droid 3 hitting stores July 14
As expected, the Motorola Droid 3 is to hit Verizon stores on July 14. According to the leak, customers on contract who wish to upgrade will be able to do so in store by direct fulfillment from July 7. All other customers will be able to purchase the device in store and online from July 14 for an expected price of $199 on a two year plan.

Motorola set to offer extended battery
Motorola is reportedly set to offer a wide range of accessories for its upcoming Droid 3 handset. A leaked inventory list points to an inductive battery door for wireless charging, a 1930 mAh extended battery, and a standard lineup of other accessories such as window mounts, HDMI cables, desktop chargers, and a number of cases.

Milestone 3 specs expected to match Droid 3 in US
Motorola's Milestone 3 -- the international adaptation of the Droid 3 -- has already been reviewed ahead of an official unveiling. The China-based site Xda.cm reportedly obtained the handset, confirming a number of specs such as a four-inch qHD display, eight-megapixel primary camera, VGA front-facing camera, and an HDMI output.

Best Buy Cellebrite system shows Droid 3, X 2
The anticipated Droid X 2 and Droid 3 smartphones from Motorola have shown up again, this time in Best Buy's Cellebrite system. The screen capture below reveals the model numbers of the handsets, with the Droid 3 going by XT862 and the Droid X 2 getting the MB870 moniker. The listing also hints that the phones are very near a release, perhaps in a matter of weeks. The Droid X 2 is expected to arrive later in May, according to unofficial rumors.

Droid 3 parts show up for sale by OEM supplier
A purported OEM parts supplier, Global Direct Parts, is already selling what it says are parts of the upcoming Droid 3 smartphone from Motorola. The photos of the screen and top half kits available on the website certainly match up to those leaked of the upcoming handset, and their availability indicates Motorola is ready to sell the device. Unofficially, it's expected to hit store shelves late this summer.
