Apple issues EFI update for late-model MacBook Airs

Comes one day after SMC update, fixes reliability issues with peripherals, more

Just one day after issuing an SMC firmware update for mid-2013 model MacBook Air units, Apple on Tuesday added an EFI firmware update package for both the mid-2013 and early-2014 models. "This update improves reliability when waking from sleep and when booting while certain USB and Thunderbolt devices are connected," the company says. It also addresses a rare memory issue, and sleep issues seen while running Windows under Boot Camp.

Previous generations of MacBook Air, MBP, iMac

[Update: MacBook Pro eligibility corrected] Apple late today issued further EFI firmware updates to allow previous-generation MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMacs to access Lion Internet Recovery, a technology that lets users re-download and reinstall Lion when the hard drive containing the recovery partition has completely failed and no other backup medium is available. The models updated today include the MacBook Air (late 2010), the mid-2010 aluminum iMacs and the mid 2010 MacBook Pros.

Apple releases spate of EFI updates, Windows QuickTime also

Updates mostly debut or enhance Thunderbolt

Late in the day, Apple Support released a group of EFI firmware updates to recent Mac models, including the current iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Air models, along with one for the just-discontinued "early 2011" MacBook Pros and one for Lion 10.7.2 specifically. With all four EFI updates, the firmware is being modified to either support or enhance existing Apple Thunderbolt Display compatibility and Thunderbolt Target Disk Mode. In addition, the company released QuickTime 7.7.1 for Windows.

Resolves Thunderbolt display, Disk Mode issues

Apple today issued updates for the Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) on Thunderbolt-equipped models of the MacBook Pro and Mac mini that is said to resolve issues with Apple's Thunderbolt Display compatibility and Target Disk Mode under Thunderbolt. The updates also add Lion Recovery mode to MBP and Mini models that shipped with Lion pre-installed, which previously made re-installation of Lion unnecessarily difficult.

MacBook Air firmware update addresses glitches

EFI update for both 11- and 13-inch Airs

Apple has finally released an EFI Firmware Update for the latest MacBook Air notebooks released earlier in the year. The download is said to resolve an issue that sometimes caused the device to become unresponsive, along with a separate glitch that resulted in a black screen when users attempted to wake or boot the notebook.

Apple posts updates for Boot Camp, MacBook firmware

EFI firmware updates for Mid 2010 MacBook and MBP

Apple has posted several maintenance updates for Boot Camp, along with EFI firmware updates for the latest MacBooks and MacBook Pros. The Boot Camp downloads add support for the ATI-Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, Apple's USB Ethernet adapter, and the MacBook Air SuperDrive. Version 3.2 is also said to include several critical bug fixes.

Swedes get hands-on with EFI on Intel Sandy Bridge PCs

Firmware managed by new graphical interface

Following the introduction of several new motherboards designed for Intel's upcoming Sandy Bridge processors, ASUS has also demonstrated its new UEFI system and a graphical management interface. Images posted on the Swedish site SweClockers show the new UI, which has been modernized well beyond the simple keyboard-input system of BIOS firmware.

Apple updates fix SuperDrive noise, AirPort bugs

Updates address noise in Macs and bugs in WiFi.

Apple on Tuesday released updates to address optical noise created by its line of MacBook computers, including EFI Firmware updates for its MacBook EFI Firmware Update 1.4 [3.14MB] and MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.8 [3.36MB] lines and a SuperDrive 3.0 Firmware Update [18.35MB] for iMacs and Mac minis. According to Apple's SuperDrive Documentation, if you see Revision: KA15 or 2AHG on an iMac, it needs to be update (and it will be either KA16 or 2AHH after the update) and Mac mini with the Revision 2AHF drives require this update (afterwards it will be 2AH1). It is unclear if the updates fix SuperDrive issues revealed by one developer that surfaced shortly after Snow Leopard was released.
