Rumor of Apple buying Sony spark Japan share chaos
Sony's share value surged by as much as three percent in Japan on Tuesday after a rumor that Apple was considering it a buyout target. The rush was triggered by speculation by Barrons that the company's $51 billion in cash might be used to buy a major company, with Sony as just one of the targets. Original author Eric Savitz has since said it was "pure speculation" and was likely taken too seriously by Japanese investors.

Apple may have dropped clue to tablet
Apple may have dropped a hint recently as it has quietly pulled the web content of its old acquisition FingerWorks. Both the original and cached versions now no longer show the multi-touch pioneer's content despite it remaining largely unchanged in the more than four years since it was acquired by Apple. The cached version from late Sunday evening also shows a Delaware-based domain parking firm.

Microsoft Invests N-Trig
Israeli touchscreen maker N-Trig today revealed that it has received a total of $24 million in funding from a group of investors led by Microsoft. The American developer is the largest contributor and says its undisclosed amount is there to encourage the use of multi-touch technology with Windows 7, which is the first desktop Windows platform to be built with touchscreens in mind.
