Get the Hot Pockets, there's a new Sid Meier's Civilization title out
Civilization isn't the first strategy series in video gaming, but it is probably the most enduring. Since the series' introduction in 1991, countless players have been stormed by barbarians, built the pyramids, and been nuked into oblivion (because of a coding bug) by the Indians. This year, the Firaxis-developed series launched a sequel to both Civilization V and the well-regarded Alpha Centauri in the form of Civilization: Beyond Earth available on OS X, Windows, and Linux. How many hours of your life will this one take?
Civilization: Beyond Earth available for OS X today
Firaxis and Aspyr have announced that Civilization: Beyond Earth will be available later today for purchase and download on Steam, the Mac App store, and on GameAgent. The game requires OS X 10.9.5 or greater, an Intel Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 8GB of drive space, and at least the Intel HD 4000 with 256MB of VRAM. Civilization: Beyond Earth retails for $50. Look for a MacNN giveaway of the title soon.
New Civilization title demands Yosemite, i3 processor
The latest installment of the Civilization franchise from developer Firaxis, Civilization: Beyond Earth, today has a slightly-narrowed release date for OS X as well as declared hardware and OS requirements. While the PC release is scheduled for October 24, the Mac version will ship in time for the holiday season. Civilization: Beyond Earth will require OS X 10.10 Yosemite, an Intel Core i3 processor or greater running at 2.2GHz or more, and 4GB of RAM. Minimum GPU specs are the Nvidia GeForce 640M, ATI Radeon HD 5750, or Intel Iris Graphics with 256 MB.
Add-on gives added depth, choices for endgame
Ever since the first Civilization title shipped on a pair of floppy disks in the early '90s, the series has been a staple on the PC and Macintosh. Late in 2013, Firaxis helmed by Sid Meier pushed out the second major expansion to Civilization V, called Brave New World. With the game itself a few years old and the expansion costing more than the base game itself now does, is the expansion a worthwhile addition to the series, or more of the same?
MechWarrior: Total Command stops onto iPhone 4 and better
Developer Personae Studios has announced the newest revision of MechWarrior: Tactical Command is now a universal app. The classic game set in the BattleTech universe has expanded on the previous versions to bring optimized graphics, real-time strategy and three planets where the player commands a skilled lance of MechWarriors to fight for command of the Star League. The evolving story allows the player to get to know the personality of each of the MechWarriors through cut scenes and in-game video which also serve to keep the mission objectives clear throughout each assignment. The application is available for $0.99 through March 16.
