Extensis extends font management software integration to Creative Cloud

Extensis has revealed two font-related updates for both Suitcase Fusion 5 and Universal Type Client 4. The changes introduce direct integration with Adobe Creative Cloud, allowing designers and developers to bring Typekit fonts directly into their font management workflow, along with compatibility with OS X 10.9 Mavericks.

Macware offering 40 free fonts

Runecats has launched a new versions of Roccat and Roccat Connect. Roccat is a desktop web browser for Macs that features the option to backup open tabs, bookmarks, settings, and more to the cloud. The latest release adds support for Retina displays, and also includes webGL, Facebook integration, and a new feature called Flick. Flick allows users to quickly share webpages with other users on the same network. Meanwhile, Roccat Connect is an iOS version of the browser that lets users access any tabs open on the desktop client.

FontGear announces FontPad Server for web fonts

Manages, protects fonts from being copied

Enterprise font software maker FontGear has debuted FontPad Server, an internet server that both manages and protects web fonts used on web pages. The software allows users to specify what domains or pages are allowed to use which fonts, and then serves encrypted font data that prevents viewers from copying the commercially-licensed fonts used. The program gives designers the freedom to use custom fonts without worry.

Briefly: Fruux gains iOS support, FontPack Pro now $1

FontPack Pro promotion

Fruux, a tool that was originally launched as a Mac to Mac syncing service, has been updated with support for iOS and Android devices. The utility is based on open standards, such as CardDAV and CalDAV, which allow users to sync both contacts and calendars between a number of devices. An automatic setup process is offered for OS X Lion and iOS, while other devices require users to perform a manual setup. Fruux can be downloaded for free from the company's website.

Apple files for trademark on 'Noteworthy' font

Replaces 'Chalkboard' as new font for notes

Apple has registered a "blind" trademark filing, asserting ownership of the term "Noteworthy" with the European Trademark Office based on a Jamaican application filed in November 2010, Patently Apple reports. The class descriptions associated with the filing leave few clues as to its nature, but interestingly one of the classes is reserved for "printer's type; printing blocks; printing fonts; typefaces," making it likely that it relates to the new, original "Noteworthy" font used in very recent iterations of the Notes app on newer iOS devices.

Fontcase, a Apple Design Award-winning font manager from Bohemian Coding, has been upgraded to version 2.0, bringing with it a major re-design of the user interface, Typedia integration and a new method of previewing fonts the company calls Typesetter. Fontcase focuses on metadata, allowing users to assign tags, genres and other info like designer and foundry, or let the Typedia integration fill all that in automatically. The program features strong comparing tools to let users compare fonts and has been improved over the previous version in speed and performance.

FontExplorer X Pro 3 adds character toolbox, slideshows

Paper, ink font comparisons, Growl support in v3

Monotype Imaging has launched an update to its font manager, FontExplorer X Pro 3. The software can manage, activate and organize existing font collections and find new fonts via an integrated store. Version 3 adds a feature, called a character toolbox, that shows available languages and can filter fonts for specific characters. The ability to compare fonts by paper or ink usage is new, while a transparent slideshow automatically overlays various fonts until the user sees the right look.

FontGear's FontDoctor 8 adds speed, updates user-interface

Repair charts, one-on-one comparison tools added

FontGear has launched an update to its font repair utility, FontDoctor 8. The software scans local and networked font folders, diagnosing and repairing problems such as missing fonts, bitmaps, and corrupt or damaged fonts. Version 8 adds a new interface, along with faster diagnosis and repair times. It comes with new charts for repair reports and adds a font-comparison tool for direct comparisons between similar fonts.

In brief: Izatt International will be running an evening course designed to help grow the iPhone development community in Utah. The courses will be run in the evening from June 23rd to the 26th and all day on the 27th. A new partnership has brought 10 new travel guides to the App Store. Dorling Kindersley and Coolgorilla joined together to release a series of travel guides for the iPhone and iPod touch that cover some of the world's most famous cities. Meanwhile, Macware has announced that its updated website is now online. The company is also currently offering several free fonts as a preview of their upcoming MacFont 3 and MacFont 4 font collections.

Friar Pro Font

In brief: A new iTunes visualizer, TRAKART has been released as a public alpha. The visualizer builds slideshows based on a song's lyrics, analyzing each track to extract keywords which it then uses to search Flickr. Images are then arranged into a slideshow which plays along with the song. Three guides have been released by Peachpit which teach users how to make better use of iLife '09, iWork '09 and GarageBand '09. The guides cover the basics of using each application, along with tips to create more professional products. Meanwhile, Ascender has released a new font style that is based on one of Goudy's original typefaces. The Friar Pro font is based on the original Friar typeface that was lost in a fire at Goudy's studio in 1939.

    FontXChange updated to 1.5

    Morrison SoftDesign has released FontXChange 1.5 for Mac OS X. The font-format converter has updated its Unicode support to 5.1 and improved its parsing and rendering tools. The 1.5 update can generate .AFM files, can rebuild a damaged font and has new naming options available. FontXChange converts between OpenType, PostScript Type 1, TrueType for Mac and Windows and many other font-types and it supports font encoding for Adobe Standard, Unicode, Mac Roman and others. It offers a batch processor and a preview window for inspecting fonts.
