Apple gets one last chance at Samsung German ban

A court in Dusseldorf, Germany issued a ruling Friday that it would hear Apple's appeal over a denied Galaxy Tab 10.1N ban on June 5. The procedure will start decisions on whether or not a judge was wrong in February to decide that the slightly modified Android tablet didn't infringe Apple's design rights. A representative for the court, Ulrich Egger, didn't expect the June date to represent a final decision.

Galaxy Tab 2 to compete mainly on price

Samsung late Wednesday detailed the US launch plans for a trio of its main Android tablet devices for the year. The Galaxy Tab 2 line will come to the US in both 7.0- and 10.1-inch forms with their dual-core 1GHz processors, Android 4.0, three-megapixel rear camera and VGA front cameras intact. The two are considered lower-cost versions of original Galaxy Tab ancestors but do have unique support for infrared remote control using Peel's Smart Remote app.

Samsung sees 2012 tablet setback due to OS issues

Samsung on Tuesday delayed the Galaxy Tab 2 line by a month. After having missed its March target, the company told IDG that the 7.0 and 10.1 variants should first ship at the end of April, to UK residents. It didn't give an indication of when other countries would get theirs, although these were originally meant to follow later.

Mini iPad may take thin bezel to maximize design

A rumor starting the week has the often claimed 7.85-inch small iPad using relatively new technology to make the most of its screen. Part suppliers told Digitimes they anticipated Apple using thin bezel technology to make sure as much of the screen was available as possible. Indirectly supporting this, they expected that Shuriken panel designer LG Display would make the IPS or FFS (in-plane or field fringe switching) LCD.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tries 7-inch tablets again

Samsung has unveiled its third seven-inch tablet within a year and a half on Monday by bringing out the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). The design is its first Android 4.0 tablet and mostly benefits from improved responsiveness and a new app drawer, although it adds extras like Face Unlock. Hardware performance is potentially a step back from the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, since it runs a 1GHz dual-core chip of an unmentioned make versus 1.2GHz on the earlier design.
