Samsung unveils GamePad controller accessory for smartphone gaming

Bluetooth controller includes NFC pairing, Play button for Galaxy smartphones

Samsung is wading into the gaming market by launching a new controller accessory for smartphones. The Smartphone GamePad and accompanying Mobile Console app connects to a smartphone or tablet over Bluetooth 3.0, though Galaxy smartphones running Android 4.3 also gain NFC pairing, allowing it to offer console-style control in compatible mobile games.

Quad-core processor, improved display for gaming tablet

A follow-up to a gaming tablet by Archos is getting a sequel, according to a recently-pulled listing on retailer HKTDC's website. The Archos GamePad 2 will have the same physical size as its predecessor, complete with game controls mounted on the sides, with the internal specifications and display receiving a expected upgrade.

Archos Gamepad brings physical controls to Android gaming

The Archos Gamepad is set to launch in the US in February at the attractive price of just $169. We were impressed in our hands-on with the device at CES last week, finding it to be both powerful enough to run Android games with ease, as well as light and flexible with its configuration. The 7-inch device will run most Android games, while also allowing users to customize their preferred control scheme for each game.

Archos GamePad combines Android gaming, physical controls

GamePad packs full Android experience and joystick

Archos has announced the retail availability of its GamePad tablet, which combines an Android tablet experience with the physical inputs of a traditional portable gaming console. The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device comes with full access to Google's Play Store and mobile services, and Archos has previously said that it would be compatible with more than 1,000 games on the Play Store out of the box, without the need for updates from developers. The Archos GamePad is now available for purchase in Europe for 150, and it is scheduled for a North American release in the first quarter of 2013.
